Welcome to Indelible Ink!

I’m Dynestee Fields, this website’s founder and a freelance writer.

I vividly remember becoming concerned about nonhuman animals at eight years old. I visited my local animal shelter and was met with a disheartening sight. The shelter’s large rooms had concrete floors and rows of kennels. Some dogs looked at me eagerly. However, one dog—a large Basset Hound—was so despondent that she didn’t even look up. Her face lay firmly on the floor with her eyes cast downward. She seemed to have given up on life.

That same year, I noticed a black, matted Shih Tzu walking in my neighbors’ yard. I knew that she didn’t belong there and called animal control to prevent her from being harmed. Imagine my surprise when, after I asked the officer if she would be alright, he replied “Probably not.” That moment has remained with me.

Since then, I’ve explored a host of initiatives to protect animals from human harm. These have included vegan travel companies, animal sanctuaries, and legal argumentation. This site amplifies the voices of those at the forefront of animal advocacy in its many contexts: companion animals, farmed animals, animals in the entertainment industry, animals used in research, and wild animals. Here, you’ll find interviews and profiles spotlighting these advocates and their approaches.

Thank you for visiting Indelible Ink. I hope the voices on this website deepen your understanding of the current landscape of animal advocacy and encourage you to take action whoever and wherever you are.
